Research Impact Beyond Publications

I co-founded a company, CU Coding, in 2018 on commercializing dependable multi-cloud storage. We designed nCloud, a software-defined multi-cloud storage system with six design guarantees in mind: fault tolerance, security, storage efficiency, scalability, performance, and configurability. We also designed nEdge, which leverages edge computing technologies to improve the performance and reliability of 5G Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications. Our nCloud and nEdge systems build on our prior research on applying the network coding theory to multi-cloud storage, to interconnect the storage resources of multiple clouds. We have made successful use cases on commercialization in industry, such as NetApp and HGC. We also won the Golden Award in the 1st Greater Bay Area 5G Application and Innovation Challenge.
